My name is Sarah Graybeal and I am based in Houston, Texas. Why Houston? Because my current "day job" is something that can only be done here: I help launch the space shuttle as a flight controller for NASA. Working for the space program isn't something you probably associate with a graphic/web designer, so some explanation is in order.

I have loved the arts for as long as I can remember. As a child I spent hours drawing, painting, making crafts, and absent-mindedly leaving my crayons outside to melt all over my mother's porch furniture. Yet in high school I became interested in math and science. I earned a B.S. and M.S. in aerospace engineering and started working for NASA. Throughout that time, I remained interested in art and design. I began creating websites as a high school senior in 1995 and started a hand-coded blog in 1999 -- before the word "blog" had been created. I took engineering classes by day while moonlighting as a section editor for the school newspaper.

Many of the skills and knowledge I have are self-taught, but in 2005, I began working part-time towards a Master's degree in Digital Media Studies at the University of Houston at Clear Lake. I will graduate in May 2009 and hope to make the jump to becoming a full-time graphic and web designer. At UHCL, I have had courses in graphic design, web design, advertising design, typography, 3D modeling, and desktop publishing. My technical skills include Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, InDesign, and Maya.

As both a trained designer and engineer, I am able to blend both technical and artistic ideas and look forward to working with you.
